BUD

Fora Form / 2024

BUD is a chair designed for environments that encourage creativity and social interaction. The concept is based on movement and transparency, a flexible and open structure that allows you to move around freely and interact with others.

The chair has an exposed frame growing out from under the seat holding up a curved and upholstered backrest. It has a good balance between being minimal and still very comfortable, also supportive but open. We wanted the chair to have presence as a single chair and at the same time work in larger numbers without creating a wall of backrests.

We wanted to design a chair with a lot of personality without being the dominant element in the room. A friendly character, honest and enveloping – a supporting friend.

The uniform and curved backrest provides both comfort, support and flexibility to the chair. Allowing you to vary between different seating positions but also perfectly supporting your elbows for periods of focused work. The detailing at the ends gives the chair a distinct identity and character.

The chair is designed with a sturdy frame that can be mounted on four different bases – four leg stacking, four leg swivel with auto return, star base with swivel and star base with wheels.

With different bases, BUD can be adapted to various environments and needs. Either around the meeting table, conference room, working stations, social setting – the adaptive qualities of BUD makes it easy for people to meet, work and eat.

Sustainability was a main topic from the start of our design process, with a goal of using as little material as possible and optimising parts without using permanent fixations such as nails or glue.

All parts are made to be separate, dismantled and replaced if needed. We worked a lot on optimising the use of textile for the curved backrest to accommodate a wide range of textiles and leather without compromising on the uniform aesthetics. The upholstery is made to be changed over time or repaired if needed, as a part of Fora Forms Reform program.

Formal or casual. BUD comes in a variety of upholstery textiles and leathers, and seven painted colors on frame and bases. Allowing user to choose from a variety of combinations and define your own BUD's identity.
